The different colors of gold
Where does yellow gold come from?
Gold is present everywhere as much on the earth as in the oceans. Most often we find this metal in terrestrial rocks. It rose in vapor with the heavy minerals (carbon) and crystallized in the cracks of the rocks.
Yellow gold is therefore not only composed of pure gold, too soft to be worked by jewellers; hence the appearance of the word "alloy". 18 karat gold (750/1000) is composed mainly of 75% pure yellow gold and 25% copper and silver. However, 9 karat gold (375/1000) contains more metals including 37.5% gold, 12.1% silver, 44% copper and 6% zinc.
And what is white gold made of?
To tell the truth, white gold is not white but rather grey! This gray color is simply the mixture of 75% yellow gold and 25% silver. Silver can sometimes be replaced by nickel or palladium.
Rose gold, this soft and fashionable color!
Rose gold is an alloy composed of fine gold, copper and silver.
